Awesome pics. And bikes look uber cool!

I cant believe that Heffron Park bike track is still there. I use to swim competitively with Maroubra RSL at Heffron pools about 20 years ago. Would have thought the track would be gone by now!

OK I've poassed this on to a few designer mates and they're keen as fuck! Tom/Rob I am pretty sure Thorsten spoke to you guys about building one a couple of days ago? Looks like a crew is brewing and you guys are to blame, big time, lol.

I'm assuming then tank/engine kit comes as a combo for money. What kind of money are we talking?

Justin Fox
18-05-09, 05:39 PM
$250-ish.

The kits come with everything you need including the tank, lever, throttle etc...

Depending on which kit you decide on it will set you back between $250- $350.

Also if you were to buy a new single speed i.e an SE draft/lager on the cheaper side it will make life easier but most of ours have been old bikes, some of which were scored from council clean ups.

Myself and Tom are debating whether to start making them and selling them through the shop but it can be fairly time consuming and we can't/don't want to take responsibility for the engines themselves or want to deal with the myriad of DUI and general redneck idiots that they attract.

If anyone is genuinely keen on getting one together by all means drop us a line and we can work something out.

So Justin are we going to see you on the grid at the next race??

Hey Rob... is this the kits? http://www.zbox.com.au/

I'm actually interested in making one that is "street legal". Has anyone gone through the process of registering one with the RTA?

Justin Fox
19-05-09, 10:27 AM
OK I just found this info on the RTA site:

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/otherinformation/scootersminibikes.html

Exemptions

All devices with a motor that meet national design and safety standards must be registered for use on a road or road-related area unless they are specifically exempt.

Motor assisted pedal cycles with electric or petrol engines are exempt from registration, provided the maximum engine output power does not exceed 200 watts. These vehicles must have been designed as a bicycle - that is, to be propelled by human power, with the motor attached as a supplementary aid only. Riders must follow the same road rules as for pedal cycles without motors, including wearing a helmet.

I called GASMAN bikes in Penrith today. Kits are ready at the warehouse but they won't courier them out ( the guy tried to charge me $100 courier to Maroubra?!). So it looks like a pick-up is in order.

I'd like to go today if Zi's up for it, so Ben, and anyone else, if you're keen let me know ASAP as I might be going in today to pick them up! Please be dead set sure though I'd hate to buy a kit and be out of pocket if you change your mind!

Benwah
20-05-09, 11:12 AM
Nah, wanted one of these for ages (like since I was 12)

I'll drop around tonight to give you the $$ and pick it up, initially it will go on an old MTB I have (or email me your bank deets and I'll deposit)

Who needs a scooter eh?

Justin Fox
20-05-09, 11:13 AM
Good shit Ben! :) Easy done I'll confirm it with you via SMS if it goes ahead today :)

Hey mate stick with the MTB (especially if it's steel framed), i just scoped a spot out for the next race and trust me some dirt tyres will be in order...?

MTB...check
Steel frame.... check
Dirt tires....check

It's a handbuilt dawes (UK) Trailblazer complete with shimano Exage 'country' index shifting, too big for me and seen much better days but will do the job nicely.

Gentlemen, start your engines!

Justin here on Zi's PC. About to hit the M4 to pick up the kits!

Rob: got your email, looks RAD!

Re:MTB - the bad news is this motor won't fit on my single speed hardrock (15inch frame).

Why does the frame have to be steel Rob? And can you run both front and rear brakes? PS: Did you drill the mount into the downtube? Fuck so many questions... will just buy the kit now and figure it all out later!

Justin Fox
20-05-09, 04:46 PM
OK done, got the kits x 3!!!!!!! :) Ben let's organise pick-up. I am out this afternoon/tonight. Maybe tomorrow night?

That is the kit I just bought. Unfortunately it's too tight a fit for my single speed. I just did a test fit, miiiight work but it's super tight. The clamps which attach the motor to the frame are made for thin tubed bicycle frames (old steel roadies). I get it now, can be modified fairly easily I am sure, but it'll bolt straight onto a roadie no worries so I'm going to start hunting down a doner frame.

Justin Fox

LOL Paul I was looking at them earlier this morning.

It has to be ghetto first and foremost to get the engine run in. If it turns out to be something really fun, and worthy of getting obsessed about I'll be hitting my mates up at Westside Mufflers and I'll be enlisting their skills (they've got too much of it) to make up a custom tank, exhaust and frame mounts too.

I've spotted many steel roadies on eBay but to be honest I'd want something a little more MTB (geo wise). The hunt continues, for now.

What frame did you end up buying Juz?

Benwah
25-05-09, 09:55 AM
Picked mine up from Justin yesterday (thanks J) I have a late 1980's steel MTB to mount it to, it fits like a glove. Going to set it up and get it running first then think about removing gearing and maybe repainting/theming the bike. I Will try and not be lazy and post pictures on the way!

Justin Fox
25-05-09, 04:01 PM
Good shit Ben. I wanted to do that too, but the purple/blue paint was just too much (lol).
