Hey guys!

Used to ride XC in Malaysia back in 98/99 then started racing 01/02. I've had 2 bikes in those years and very slowly swapped the parts out along the way. Pretty much stopped riding when I moved to Sydney and didn't have any riding buddies. The only real rides I did were Cycle Sydney in 03 and 04.

Here's a pic from Cycle Sydney 04. And yes, I used to wear tights and shave my legs :o

That bike got stolen but thankfully I had house insurance so I topped up some cash and got a Specialized Epic Disc.

Sadly I never got to ride that bike much and decided to sell it. I thought it was time to move on from 2 to 4 wheels instead and thats when I bought my DC2R :p

After Felix's endless messages(j/k :)) to get me back into riding and with this new forum i'm thinking of getting back into it sometime next year perhaps. Haven't done any sports at all for awhile now and I should cut down on the ciggies too.

If anyone's interested here are some clips of where I used to ride 5-6 times a week. Made full use of the luxury as the place is only 15 mins bike ride away from home. These are recent videos taken by someone else.

Lots of tight switchbacks and the track is usually muddy and wet due to rain all year round. 1 finger braking is an absolute necessity at all times! The video above is few of the least technical tracks.

Video above is about the guy who started and mapped the tracks. We rode with Pat regularly and we were all really sad to see him head back to Australia. Some parts of the video were recorded at the farewell race, which I came in 6th in the open category(only one).

Video above is one I just happen to come across while browsing youtube. Those guys were my riding buddies and also brothers from another mother :)

Anyway, thanks to Justin for starting this forum! Feels so much more at home compared to the 'other' biking forums. If all goes well next year i'll be joining you guys too! Also I have to say, of all the other sports ie skateboarding, rollerblading and even street hockey...MTB-ing is by far the best and most fun!

Hey MrThanh! :)

Btw guys, need your opinion on purchasing a bike. I'm currently considering purchasing a 2nd hand 05 Epic, like the one I had before. The brakes have been upgraded to Hayes hydraulic but not sure which model and the drivetrain is mostly XT/XTR components. Other than that the components are identical to my old bike. How much do you think its worth paying now?

Well its really hard to say without specifics.

What year is the XTR/XT gear ? Shadow?
Current condition of the bike
Is the current owner a racer?( that does not really effect its value but it is just nice to know if its been thrashed or not)

I think the major factors that contribute to the value of its resale value is the parts, mainly the forks, frame and wheels and also are the main contributers to the sale. Yes the other components do matter but do not affect its value as much as the others stated.

But from my uneducated guess i would say $1.2-$1.5k would be a really good bargain, $1.6-$1.9 for an pretty ok deal, $2k - $2.5 for an exceptional condition.

Now don't quote me on this as this is just my own guesstimate, I'm not 100% sure of what they went for originally i think it was aroun $4,300. But if you throw the owners the numbers i said and they replied with a "What !? are you drunk?". Look at the bike (frame specifically) and reconsider. but if they do ask for more than 2.5 then tell them that bike is 3 years old and they need to get their head checked.

Heya Felix! I'm glad you kept telling me to get back into riding :)

Hi Gekigengar, thanks for the tips man! Not sure if the bike was raced with before but the bike was for the seller's wife and she's no longer riding it. I'm probably looking at spending about $1k-ish and if the seller is happy with the price i'll be getting a bike much earlier than expected :)

I sold mine for $2.5k early last year but it was really in mint condition. I hardly rode it even the discs weren't run in yet!
