Hi everyone..I'm new and have been taken in by fixed gears...I resisted for ages cos of the trend of it but once i rode one that was it.
Mine is a convered old road bike so pretty simple but i constantly look at pics on the net of other neat ones and want to know what is the deal with sticking stuff in the spokes?
Laminated cards or whatever they are? I cant work it out...??
I suppose it is meant to "look cool" but is there/was there an actual point to it??
cheers in advance for the answer.....

Spoke cards were usually given out to winners of events and were like a trophy! E.g you see someone with a lot they are a good fast rider.

I know a few groups that use them as advertising for their cause, e.g http://www.lepistaresistance.com uses them to advertise their site and hands them out to event entrants which is kinda cool...

Do they actually serve a purpose? Not really...
Do they look cool? Sort of depending on what you are going for...
Do I have some? Yes? I have event entrant cards and the http://www.lepistaresistance.com/ one...

Bicycle couriers started it. I thought they were job cards in spokes back then?

This is what I thought, as alley cat races are generally not officially organised (ie. illegal) the spoke cards would be numbered. It was a way to identify riders without drawing to much attention.

for someone that hates fixies Rob knows a lot... LOLZ...

Felix, BMU spoke card would be alright.... like instead of a sticker! all you do is print in colour and laminate.
