I know they were never sold here but this guy has a lot of them and they all look so clean. They look a lot like my old Yanaha SRV250 and I'm pretty sure it'll go like one too (IE: not go at all).

Sumoto do heaps of that stuff, bringing in CBR250's and RVF400's putting new fairings and race type paint and selling them off for a premium. they sure look good, I don't know anyone who has personally purchased from them though, I'd do a search on some forums to see if they a good place or not to buy from.

I don't know much about the GB but they are a pretty simple looking bike, not much could go wrong, bikes are pretty reliable, most of the stuff you can do your self too, if the carb is serviced and tuned it should run really nice

Last time I went to deus, for example, they were selling low km sr400s for around 9k. The retail for something similar in Japan is around 2-3k. I have no idea what shipping and compliance costs, but I think bargains can be had for someone wanting to do the legwork...

AFAIK you need to do quite a bit stuff to the suspension and change the gearing and go to bigger brakes and wheels.

I'll never forget seeing one stuck in traffic the rider getting bored and taking off across and abandoned park and down a set of stairs.... awesome!

To convert a dirtbike to a motard you need new rims, rubber and a front brake . Dirties have much smaller rotors and calipers than streetbikes because there's less traction to use for braking. You also need spacers for the axles and the brake calipers which usually need to be custom machined.

Once you've done all that you're on the road, but your suspension will be bloody soft. You can revalve and respring or you can try and source a set of forks from a donor bike.

You can get some good results, but it's a bloody big job.

The DRZ is a great little bike. Mine's been good to me. Component choice is bloody good for a bike of it's price. Excel rims on Talon hubs and a Renthal Pro Taper bar. The engine isn't as powerful as some other 400 enduros out there, but it's bloody reliable if it's looked after. If you get the itch for more speed there's work that can be done to it relatively easily.

The DRZ is great around the city, brilliant in traffic. Bit of an issue with long trips. It's got the engine for freeway work but the seat's a bit thin. I rode mine to Canberra once and came back with bruises up either arse cheek where the edge of the seat was. That's pretty much why I've bought the SV.

Would definitely recommend the DRZ if you're a bit hesitant about going bigger than a 250 though. More power but it's not going to rip your head off unexpectedly.

If you're really keen for one, buy mine! Haven't been arsed to list it for sale yet, but I am looking to get rid of it now that it's been replaced. It's an 05 in good nick, asking for 7.5k.

Yeah, it's a tallish bike. Definitely taller than roadies. Thing is though, because the seat's so thin it's actually easier to get feet to the ground than it is with many shorter bikes with wider seats.

Just go to a Suzuki dealer and throw a leg over one. Surefire way to find out and costs you nothing. If you get one, you'll probably drop it a couple of times paddling it around the driveway, but the beauty of dirtbikes is it just doesn't matter. I've dropped mine twice and the only evidence is some slight scuffing on the left barkbuster and a tiny scratch in one of the rear plastics. Because it's not painted, the material under the scratch is the same colour as the surface and it's invisible. If you decide to, cost to replace that plastic is about $17. The barkbuster would be a bit more, but nothing compared to fairings.

ha ha thanks fellas, all up my 4 cotton racers cost me 7,500 which works out to about three million hours at maccas. I'm 17 now and have 2 months left to completely restore/build the racer up as a cafe racer. Unfortunately some genious decided to hack out the engine mounts and hack up the original fairing so they could put a 500cc kawasaki triple motor in it, they managed to cut holes right through the original painted on "avon racing" banner on the sides of the fairing (it's a three piece fairing)

they're all very nice bikes, I don't know why but proffesional motorcycle photos with backdrops just don't look right, to me a motorcycle is supposed to be raw not prettied up for the camera (calm down little man in my head, off your high horse).

ha i'm not worried about the tyres, they are the geniune dunlop tyre that came on the bike when it left the factory in 1964, that would almost be like riding on concrete!

Having twin drums is no problem, secret with any brake is to set it up right, especially with these or your REALLY up s**t creek. I'm going to do them properly and get them machined, new brake liners etc.

It's criminal that bikes need to have such big stupid plastic fenders hanging off the rear. That MV is absolutely stunning, then it's got a $5 piece of crap hanging over the back wheel. i'd prefer a thumper (sr400/500) if i built one, they are quite expensive these days though. the heiwa sort of makes sense for the japanese market, generally a bigger bike would be harder to handle in city traffic and also more cumbersome for a generally smaller (in physical size) population. i'm going to build one using a 250, because rego is cheap and it is easily lams approved. plus i also can't hoon that much on a 250 which is a good thing.
