ok, what dates work for everyone?
i was thinking sometime in the new year to give everyone who wants to attend the chance to do so
but other dates are good to if they work for others
I have a break from 24/12/08 - 5/01/09
and i'll be away from the 1st - 15th January 2009.

if this is what lachie and i rode, then it is farking scary!
The 4x ain't that scary if you're just rolling down it. If you're trying to ride it properly and clear doubles/table tops then yeah, scary++.
mm i can only clear a couple of the jumps on each one

Went there yesterday evening - was pretty fun!
Although we witness one guy stack it pretty bad. He tried to clear one of those double top jumps, and nose dived his front wheel into the second top, which sent him flying over the handlebars and dropping 2-3m face first into the ground. The ambulance had to be called and they took him to the hospital.
Just gotta be careful..

That guy who stacked was my mate. I was riding with him earlier in the day and i left around 5. Around 7.30 i get a message from my other mate telling me my friends in hospital. I had the joy of contacting his parents to tell them their sons in hospital.
He was lucky to be released at midnight with suffering only a concussion and covered in bruises and grazes.
He usually jumps the larger jumps there with no major issues. He remembers exiting the final corner, then its blank, a tiny bit of someone saying call an ambo, and the rest is hazey.
The track is as dangerous as you make it. I just pump around the place and stay mostly on the ground. No pedaling races can be fun with a few mates!
I may be in for this ride, depending on the date/time :)
I'd love to join in but I'm a bit scared...lol...can I just like roll my way through it? :p

yes of course, the jumps are mostly tables, none have a compulsory gap, my 7yo did it

I've mucked around on this a few times. It's harder than you think for sure. You can just roll around on it for fun but once you get a bit of pace up some of those jumps buck you off your pedals if you're not ready.
I love the 4X side but the BMX side's a lot of fun too. The BMX side's 1st table top is a great one to practise your airs on as you have the ramp to gain speed and a loooong table top to land on. I still can't clear that table top though, would love to have another go so I'm in so long as it's mid January some time.
yer it would be somtime in january.

tearing up the track on their 16" bikes. they are going to love

possibly get some air!
Damn why cant I live in Sydney!!
Actually we might be heading up that way around then I don't think I'll be able to bring my bike:(
Did he have a full face etc?
Nope. He usually rides with shinnies but not this time. He will be padded up/full face next time he hits that jump.
I shall hopefully turn up. Just hope for a wind free day. It's allllwwaaayyss windy there

im in! ill be catching a train out... anyone else going to do the same?
probably me too.
where do you train from?
To get there, you can either ride from Concord west and ride through bicentenial park, and down past the stadiums, or catch a train to olympic park and again ride past the stadiums, turn right at the bottom where the large fountain/grass pyramid is, then left at the next intersection, as your ride over the road bridge, looking to your right you will see the bmx track and starting mound.
As for parking, sometimes the large car park closer to the road bridge is open/has a broken boom gate. I always park on the road near the archery. It's free and only a 2min ride from the track.
i will be getting a train from bondi junction, getting off at Lidcome station and then getting on the olympic park sprint and then riding from there.

Unfortunately I have to work this weekend now :(
you suck Mo!
sounds like fun, I might make drop by and put names to faces. Are there specific rules for use the course like helmet is compulsory ? Or it's more of you ride this track at your own risk/responsibility.
ADAM7935
13-01-09, 09:42 AM
this sounds fun, ive looked at the 4x track but never riddent there!!!! ill try and make it.
rules are full face helmet, body armour, knee elbow pads etc thats what the signs around the place say anyways, people have had some very serious stacks their in the past.
^^ spewing, I've just got a normal cycling helmet and gym gloves. I don't plan to go hard at all as I'm still new, should I bother getting a full face just for riding this track ?
no rules elim, there may be a sign with rules but there is nobody there to inforce them. I have riden there before no protective gear at all. If your just going to roll around you will be fine
So you will be there on time Andy :) See you Saturday
^^ thanks for confirming dude.
i might bring the camera along for this one
The only rule i've seen inforced is wearing a helmet of any type or form. There was a time when security used to pop round and tell those nto wearing helmets to wear them, but it isn'y really a major issue. We all know we should wear a helmet anyway, i'd highly recomend gloves too.
I too also hope to put names to faces and faces to names on Saturday.
Justin Fox
13-01-09, 06:52 PM
I'll be wearing shin pads for this one!!!
where do you get light weight BMX type helmets from? Havent been able to find any anywhere?

Definitely will be driving Rhys. I'll PM you my address and we could meet up and take the one car perhaps? I've been there a few times, not sure where it is again, forgotten but I'm sure I'll find it again. I want to park in the carpark next door to it this time.
Zi carpool biyatch.

Well, i would like to go, but i just don't feel capable of doing any jumps just yet.
so just go so you can practice?
Dw mate, I don't feel capable enough to do any jumps but seeing and chatting with everyone will be a good learning curve. Plus I think it said somewhere that all jumps are rollable.
i havent ridden for about 15 years and i feel very comfortable rolling over this track. At times it gets a little hairy, but thats all to do with the speed you take the jumps at. Would love to be able to jump the shit out of the BMX but being 35yo it hurts alot more when you come off :(
^^ as others have said, just go out and enjoy. I personally can't do jumps so the more 'newbies' out there, the better we each feel about ourselves, haha :D
ukalipt
15-01-09, 12:05 PM
im with you ido09s.
being 39 i tend to try not to jump. but...
i am going to get justin to bring the right tools to take off
my clippless pedals and throw on some flats just in case.
my kids may get some air so i imagine there will be some
tears from them as well. they are only 6 and 5 but they
will give it a major work out for sure.
there is no pressure, everyone will/should ride within their
own boundaries.
Justin Fox

forcast is for clearing showers.
the track isnt fun in the wet
I used to jump most of the jumps when the track was first opened (see my avatar), but now changes have been made to the track and i find it more fun just to pump the track as fast as possible. As mentioned earlier, its usually windy there, and i hate getting air when its windy!
Went to check it out today with EGG80X......Way too old and stiff for that sorta shit!...I'm chicken! LOL But I'll still go for the meet up :D We then drove to Anaconda since they have a 50% off sale on bikes and started checking out BMXs which got us thinking for Saturday...just something cheap and nasty (rather than trashing our newly acquired Giants) for shits 'n' giggles hahaha

no he wasnt. Some older guy that was there with his kids. Justin's was hardly worth writing home about
Great day all, I had a blast and it was nice meeting more new faces :)

Thanks JDMpulsar :) and yes, let go of the bike old man. Good to see him giving it a go though.
It was nice to get out there and meet some of you guys and go for a ride. I really should get the courage to do some of the jumps whilst it's a little windy instead of just pumping everywhere. Oh well, next time.
