I have no real complaints about my Canon IXUS. Great battery life and decent photos and it's tough too. I carry it absolutely everywhere in my pocket every single day.

I bought a Sony Cyber shot years ago and loved it.

I thrashed it, bolted it to my bike and took it around Eastern creek and basically shook the living crap out of it and it still takes good photos. Its just a little overweight by today's standards.

I then bought a second one, but the ex ended up with that.

I then bought a third slim line model, a T-10 and its crap! blurry photo's and useless menu. It takes too long to get where you need to be to set up a decent photo. Macro is awesome but thats about it. And battery life sucks arse big time. I have two batteries and they are both short on lifespan.

We recently won a Olympus tough thingy. looks the goods but every time you turn it on, its asks you to set it to the type of photo, eg, outdoors, indoors etc.

I'll be giving that a workout next week and taking it underwater too!

+1.

We've got the IXUS 750. It's a few years old now and still going strong.

Mine does that on scene mode. Just set the little dial to something else like full auto or anti-shake and it'll be ready to go as soon as you turn it on. You can always flick it back to scene if you do want to use it.

I'm pretty happy with the Olympus since I can thrash it without worrying about it. I hate having to be precious about my gear. The image quality isn't brilliant and the movie mode kinda sucks, but the hardiness makes up for it.

I have a canon g10 the g11 looks to be alot better but there up around the 600$ mark.

I would hit up the pansonic lumix range. Just get one near your budget.

The Lumix and another one with SX200 in it is what Andrea has been looking at.

is that $600 for the G11 local price? or an ebay price?

Thanks for the feedback so far guys.

i would consider the Nikon P6000

G11 looks good too, dunno why Canon gave it less MP then the G10 though.
Im pretty sure G10 is more expensive then the G11

Brad i think i bought my g10 for low to mid $600

If i could do it again i would get the lumix lx3 with the leica lens. I dont know how that compares to the new g11 however.

That was the smartest thing they could do the biggest issue with the g10 is the noise issues due to craming so many megapixels into a tiny little sensor.

My g10 has more megapixels then my real DSLR its like WTF and the sensor is smaller meaning bad noise issues above iso200

Yeah, the LX3 is the way to go if you can spring for it, my LX2 is sweet as which is pretty much down to the Leica lense. Although it is a tiny bit bulky if that bothers you.

The G11 looks a little big? Looking for something that is reasonably compact.

What about the Panasonic lumix DMC-TZ7?
