I am interested in buying something off a forum, not this one, anyways the item would be posted from QLD therefore it would be bank deposit not pickup.
Is there anyway to have sme sort of security, or can you complain/report to police if item does not arrive?
Thanks, Bike Kid
The only advice i can give you is caveat-emptor.
Check the members previous posts, make sure they are not a new member.
The forum, the directors, mods and admin will not take any responsibility for any transactions made.
registered post is usually a good option, you can check when it was mailed... or that somthing was mailed.
edit: took to long to post.... now I'm repeating some of that ^^
Is the person an established member of the forum? Does he have some sort of trading rep?
Most forums take no responsibility for trading that occurs on their site, so yer i guess it would be a police matter if he didn't send the stuff (unlikely from my experience).
Anyway, usually you ask for the sellers details first, like name, phone number, etc etc etc...so you know who you are dealing with..
oh and don't deal with kids, its just a pain...... 'oh ye soz dude.. like i was gonna post it today aye but mum wldnt drive me to shops to get to the post Office aye bra.. soz.. might post in sumtime next week aye,, '

'yeah, I know you were asking for to grand but would you take 800 coz I only have that at the moment i wanted have an stp would you trade and also would this bike be tuff enough for dirt jumping coz yeah i like doing that too i could also swap you some spare parts i have only tektro and wellgo hey but they are still heaps good and tuff cheers.'
That is pretty much a verbatim quote of about 5 offers I got when I tried to sell a sub 10kg cannondale race bike on Rotorburn.
Send the seller an email, if they seem like a straight shooter then its all good. You don't have much to worry about with bank transfers. It takes atleast 100 points of ID to open an account, and if you are willing to jump through a few hoops the bank can cancel the payment.
It takes a bit of work to get trading access on Rotorburn, if that is the forum you are talking about. It is all very legit and above board.

You could always use paypal if its a decent sum of $$.
That way you get their buyer protection..

meh its $250, not a new bike or anything...
This is more for international eBay items and so on.
But with PayPal you have 45 days to file a dispute. Sounds like alot but someone can quickly drag this out with excuses like we don't have that in stock but will have in the next week or 2. Then when next week comes they will have problems with their contracted freight company.
It drags out and it goes pretty fast so beaware of how long the transaction has been going for...

haha my dh has been up for sale for a few months now.. and i've got some funny offers... the best was probably this:
'hey man wld u split the spring aye, cheers'
'Um, as in the whole shock or just the spring for the schock'
'nah man, jst the spring aye, wanna trie a 350 one aye... wld u take 5 bucks...
Yer sure I'll split it, but it would cost you about $1400, and because I'm such a nice guy, I'd even throw in a free bike...

thats only offered when buying through Ebay i think you will find
You can use paypal for any transaction. All you have to do is put in their email addy that is registered to their account and send the money. Alot of companies are now using it as an other method of payment besides credit card.
