Title really suggests it all...

Rear brake makes an awful turkey-like gobbling noise when applied. It's driving me insane.

Hose was recently shortened and bled, rotor cleaned and new pads fitted (sintered). Caliper adjusted/aligned correctly. was fine for a week, now this noise has developed.

Any thoughts?

Find a good hill, build up plenty of speed and then hold the rear brake on (not to the point of locking the wheel!) all the way down.
That should give the pads a good de-glaze and may fix the problem. It works for me.

Warped disc? Pull it off and stick it on a flat surface.

It's part of the charm of owning Jucy's. :)

There's a massive thread over on MTBR somewhere.

Not much can be done really. I find mine goes away somewhat once my rotors heat up a bit.

That's right. Think of it as a design feature, like brake lights. Brake lights help the people behind know you are slowing down. Avid decided they could do the same for mountain bikers but without the weight of a light!;)

I think i got lucky. I've never had this noise on either of my sets.

I had this problem with my juicy 5's. The problem is usually that the pads are contacting the rotor a little low. The "gobbling" noise is the rotor arms passing through the pads.

The fix that worked for me was to put a washer under each end of the caliper so that it was spaced out from the frame/fork further and sitting on the braking surface of the rotor. Putting a washer under each end of the caliper fixed these gobbling noise problems for me!

Pretty cheap fix! (although I have gone back to Shimano brakes because I like them better!!)

Ok, washers have fixed the problem, though I get a short squeal.

I suspect that the washers I fitted were a little too thick ~1.5mm resulting in the pads going over the top of the rotor.

Will try find something smaller and see how I go.
