I've always had dramas tossing a bike in the back of my ute, with all my toolboxes, equipment, machine parts etc....

Till now I just haven't had time, to get around to doing something to sort the problem out.

The last away job I had was right in the training lead up to the Syd to the Gong ride last year, so I needed to have the bike with me to train after work.

How the bike didn't get trashed, I'll never know. Just kept falling over in the back, no matter how well I thought I had it tied down.

So.....while I was out at a customer's factory the other day, I borrowed their workshop and some scrap steel and ended up with a couple of these.

I had an old skewer in the shed so I just turned up a "dummy" hub and welded it to a makeshift frame.

I am off to central Victoria for a week then Melb for 2 weeks after that so I really want to take one of my bikes to keep training while I am away. I am hoping that this little contraption will support the bike well enough so that a couple of straps will hold it safe & sound in the back of the Hilux for the trip - we'll see how it goes

Looks pretty good to me dude!

Kev/Summa have a pretty hectic wood mount for bikes in their back of their utes

This is what i use. Although i don't usually have all the other stuff in th back like you do. I can slide it in and out whenever i need it.

Nice.

I just do what I do for my dirtbikes.

Tie down on each side of the bars, triangulate it to the hooks and crank down. Stays steady as a rock.

That looks like a good idea too! Thanks for the pic!
It would make a lot of sence for transporting multipule bikes.
I'd copy it but my tray is only 1500mm deep (dbl cab ute) so I have to take a wheel off to fit the bikes in (hence the lock stand)
I am hoping that, as it is small, I can position my toolboxes around the bike and then just strap it down, with no danger of it slipping around and falling over.

None of the images work for me. :(

I also have a dual cab, but what I do is flip the bike so it's resting on its saddle and bars, then throw a ratchet strap over the downtube and hook it to the hard points halfway down my tray. I've had five 26"ers in the back like this. Didn't take them real far but didn't have any dramas either.

ahh dual cab, yeah I can see why you use your system then.

Nice Lux, I'd love an SR5.

I just take the back wheel off, loosen the stem so the bars move and take the seat off before I cram mine in the back seat all over the lambs wool.
(not joking)
