My 1st "real" bike when I was young enough to ride a bike was a BMX called a "MADISON." I think I got it from my parents in 1983. It was a black frame with yellow pads and gold rims. I eventually replaced the rims with yellow tuffs, not Skyway unfortunately.
That bike was stolen.:(
Can anyone else remember what they owned?
In the UK : Very first bike was a BMX with 12” wheels, it was red and I have vivid memories of bombing around my parents yard skidding on the grass around two trees in a figure ‘8’ then I graduated to a 20” BMX blue with yellow tuffs and stunt pegs so I could ‘double’ my brother to school, I crashed that bike pretty hard one day and cracked my sternum (it is still ‘bent’ to this day) last bike in the UK was an old Raleigh Racer of my grandfathers with 3 speed Sturmey archer hub and cloth wrapped handlebars it was way way too big for me and I’d kill to have it now because it would fit me and I could ride it and do my grandfather proud (he was a mad keen cyclist and used to commute to the coal mine/steel mill where he worked for 50+ years)
Then I came out to Australia and my first bike out here was a ‘mountain’ bike, green and white in true late 80’s style 14 speed SIS gearing (indexed on the rear, friction on the front) it actually got stolen from Berowra Station when I was at school one day (in the middle of summer too I can still remember the combination of burning Anger and burning sun/heat from the road walking home… and being scared to tell my parents even though it wasn’t my fault… kids were scared of parents in those days) the last bike I had as a kid was another ‘mountain’ bike a sweet black number with Araya Allow rims and 21 gears, had some monumental stacks on that thing going down stairs riding in stormwater drains and doing jumps.
Then nothing for 10 years or so and then a Mongoose BMX, and old road bike etc etc
I had a speedwell dragster with spokey dokies. It taught me what pedal strike was when I was about 7.

i used to have a raleigh chopper replica,
then bmx's throughout the 80's - a mongoose and a SLA - i used to race BMX
a gemini and a dodson racer through the 90's
scott reflex 40 - in 2006
the gemini i used to ride about 300km per week to work in the late 80's - 90's
as well as weekend rides to bobin head.
the dodson i did a fair few km's on but lost the plot when i first had kids.
the bmx's were moving almost every waking moment after school.
i rode everywhere as child... everywhere
when in the usa i had a tuffy hardhail. I dont even think it had susy front suspension
before I left Australia; i had a Feiro hybrid think ( i cant find a photo of it anywhere)
it had like racing wheel covers but chunkier tyres and mtb geometry...

After I got over that loss my Mum and Dad took me and my Sister over to Maroubra Cycles ( now MC Cyclery) and bought me an Apollo MKII BMX, it was black with yellow pads.I had that until the seat post snapped off at the frame, couldn't be fixed so I had to throw it out! Wish I hadn't now.:(
