After a chain snap and a stack resulted in a bent front dura ace wheel beyond repair, the hubs appear to be in good working order. The challenge is, where the hell do I find a 16 hole rim? Can I use a 32 hole rim and just halve the spokes with stronger grade spokes?

Would be a shame to ditch a dura ace hub.

I've emailed Shimano about replacement rims but I feel it's gonna be cheaper to get a new wheel.

yeh, i can't see why that would be an issue*. using the same grade spokes as you used with the 16 hole hub should be okay too, imho.
also, velocity will do rims in whatever drilling you could ask for.

*i'm not an expert, or even a knowledgable amateur. all advice based on hearsay and ignorance.

Jono, didn't Frag do this with his gold wheels? i believe he filled the holes so it wasn't ugly?

yeh, something like that. Or did he fill the flanges completely then re-drill all the holes? Pretty sure the rims weren't touched.

Thinking about it more, I think it was just the flanges that he messed with.

Hmmm will check out velocity.. perhaps I could pimp up the commuter, I've needed an excuse to upgrade some components, on the other hand I promised myself not to get silly with unnecessary bike spending.

Yes you can do it. A friend ran a 48h hub with a 24h rim. So you will be able to go from 16 to 32.
