I think it's best to meet/start at 10AM. it will give those a bit further away a chance to get there on time.
maybe one of the mods can change the thread title to reflect the change in meeting time.

Yeah it works perfectly.. but go to St. view to see the actual carpark and start of the trail. You need to turn into Burke St. via King St.

to make it a bit easier... as you're going down appin road turn left at the street where there's a servo with a green sign/kebab sign lol. then left into the third street.

I'm heading up from around Wetherill Park, although we usually pass through canley heights through to canley vale to get pork rolls before the ride lol.
Then it's onto the hume highway to head out there.

I think i would make it but if we start at 9am. I'm sorry for those who may have to wake up earlier than usual. It just that i have family commitments in the afternoon. Other than that you may go a later but i would be unable to go. (I really want to go) :madness:
How about if some people want to meet at 9am i can show you the loop. We should be able to do the loop in an hour and be back at the cars by 10am but we won't be able to stop too much.:)

You should try to do 3 laps as that is the length of most of the club xc races held at appin by the WMBC.

Zi and I are rocking up at 10 and doing 2 laps.. zi said he wants to do more then 2!
It's meant to be around 33 degrees out here on Sunday and the top part of the track can get pretty hot so make sure you bring sunscreen.
Or we could start at 7 and miss the heat!:p
64ponty
22-01-09, 02:39 PM
lap times are for the shorter xc race course - not the WWS 08 course
guys, its still supposed to be like 35degrees on Sunday, so i think efforts need to be taken to ride earlier in the day....
i have just typed this then looked again and Crank says the same things...
evil: what do you suggest ?
If it gets hot during the first lap i don't think too many will want to go out for a second lap, especially when they think about the first climb again!
MrThanh
22-01-09, 10:05 PM
depending on how we're going for time, i might give a second lap a stab :)
might have to hit loftus afterwards and then onto wattamola for a dip ! lol jk.

I am up for two laps (if my body agrees). This may change if the track has many uphills
cool...ill see you guys out there at 10am 33degrees or 43degrees! :D just bring lotsa fluids...can someone PM me directions please.
Anyone thought about doing a switch back? What me and my mates do is ride 1 lap then do a switchback (only one big hill to climb). Its a fast blast back to the bridge. You then have 2 options 1. cross the bridge and continue going back the same way you came from OR 2. turn around and do the nice flowing single track again back to the car. Technically that 2 laps done!!

If you do that you're better off going up the firetrail (that the 8 hour course came down) before the bridge if you want to complete the lap in reverse. I've only done that once and that was the very first time i went out there to find the track.
I'm up for a lap in the reverse direction though.:)
What time you plan to be there Crank ?
I might aim for 7am and take my time doing a lap in reverse. Then i'll still be able to hit up 2 more laps with everyone else. Maybe more depending on the pace set and when everyone turns up.

Just checking what time is everyone rocking up to Appin tomorrow.
Rain won't bother the track and the forecast is showing less than 30 deg now. I'll try and be there early to do a slow lap in reverse. Probably around 7:30am. If you see a white Falcon ute with a red rack in the back then that's me.:)

leaving in 10 mins, weather seems cool which is good..
Thanks guys it was a good ride. I got out early and did a lap in the reverse direction, resulting in me ripping the rear derailleur off and bending the hanger on the Nomad, but i still rode nearly the whole loop, missing only about 1km of twisty stuff. I quickly drove back home and picked up a different bike.
The ride with the guys was good. Hopefully everyone enjoyed the loop and didn't get too put off by my directions. The guys on the hardtails did it pretty hard but good on you lot for just making it around the course.
We had a few crashes but thankfully no serious injuries, unless Adam comes back and reports differently!
Good ride guys. Even the weather held out for us.

Awesome ride guys.
Grant, thanks so much for being a most excellent trail guide. You're like trailflix, but in real life!!!
The sand on corners was so bad the 1st lap around, but better the 2nd time around. My ankle felt so good until the very end of the 1st lap, after a rest it was 100% again for the 2nd lap.
1st lap I had pro-pedal on, and I was bouncing around everywhere, so sketchy I had a hard time staying on the trail in parts. 2nd lap was a lot better with propedal off and a bit more air in my rear shock. Perfection! The thin and fast Kenda small block 8 on the rear was just perfect. I loved it and it never slipped even on the tech uphill stuff.
Tai and Cliffy pushed me to the limit for the 2nd half of the 2nd lap where we didn't stop at all. I was seriously spent by the end of that lap, felt so bad, but so good at the same time. Thanks for the words of encouragement Tai. I reckon I would have stopped if you didn't say something lol.
Nice trail, the uphill stuff is great as it's single trail with a little technical thrown in to keep you from getting bored so you're up before you know it.
All in all, great ride! So glad I made it.
PS: I'll post a few pics in a sec.
for the final time, apologies guys !! I was going to SMS Thanh to tell everyone to keep going and I'll meet them back at the carpark but Clifton was there, oops.
This is the most hardest trail I've done, very technical and a few stacks and bruises lol.
Usually I spend 5mins thinking about the roll downs but I couldn't make you guys wait anymore so I had to do it and I almost shitted my pants. I've skipped the last one where Adam had the incident.
Nice meeting everyone and looking forward to riding with you guys again (after some endurance/training session as you guys are all hardcore).

thanks crank for organising and being the tour guide on the day, excellent place to ride and very fun for nearly all of the loop bar the sand, the trail has a bit of everything and as justin said the uphills do not kill you because your thinking alot about line choice and obstacles that before you know it your up there..
A good group and great to meet all you guys and ride with those i have already met, congrats to all for making it round with no flats or major mechanical issues too.
As for the fall, thanks everyone for your support and offer of medical assistance, i hurts like hell and is still weeping/bleeding as i type this but its more my ego that is bruised it think,
its probably the most injured ive been on a bike and i have ridden some world cup and state DH trails over the last couple of years with no major falls like that and thats probably why i was so embarrassed but i also realise it happens from time to time in mountain biking...
glad to hear everyone enjoyed the 2nd lap, ill be keen to join you guys again next round..

LOL @ bear reference.
Yup kudos to Jing for:
A) Getting back on the bike after having a stack so early on in the ride. That can sometimes screw with your confidence pretty badly.
B) Going the 2nd lap. I know you were down and out after the 1st lap Jing (you looked worse than you did after the 2nd lap!). You even said you were going home, but sticking in there and doing another lap (on a hardtail too!!!) = top effort.
aww shucks, honestly, i really need to get my stamina back. Need to do a lot more riding
