Over the weekend I did one of the many trails at Port Hills Rapaki> Castle Rock > Green Wood> Captain Thomas> Sumner> City. 40 odd KM and maybe 1000+M elevation.... so not really a biggie. Taking the Wolf out for its 5th ride was alot of fun.

The forecast was a hot one and it most definitely was… at 30+ degs it was freaking hard work indeed on the Wolf…. I struggled a bit to be honest in the heat…but I managed it. The way I look at it is that Summer is here and the first few hot rides take a while to acclimatise to, but that’s the point…. you have to just get out and get used to it. After a winter with temperatures down to -5 i'm feeling the heat this year!

I remember riding in temperatures of 44+ degs while living in Australia for 9 years so I try to keep things in perspective ;)

was following one of them down a steep downhill section and just after a dropoff he hit the tree (picture on the right) and rolled and landed in a heap.

I know i'm insensative but I told him to wait until i pulled the phone out to capture it. Sorry about the quality.

Awesome-o stack by Zi :D jumped off a 4 foot drop and then bounced off the suspension into a tree... such a shame we didnt capture in on film :(

Riding for just over 2 hours and did a mammoth 9 kms :P weak sauce.

I prefer the other lucas Heights run from the school... More flowing trail and less walking up hill... Definitely some pretty scenery too...

I'd almost give the left one UMMH to come and ride some of those christchurch trails ha ha , I must say the dam is at it's dry and rocky best atm. I have a sneaking suspicion that they will regrade the whole of the downhill soon and turn it into a freeway again , which would be a real shame , whilst it's only short it is sketchy but fun at present.

hehe. I mean we can work with just one right?

When i was downunder- most trails seemed to become smoothed over for the dirt roadies. real shame.

Maybe in 2009 we could have a BMU trip to the South Island? That would rock- and of course you can all stay at my place so i loose grip on reality for a week. Sweet :D

Must be getting close for your trip north to Whakarewa! for some Sequoia and native ferns, to save you from the hot beating sun, oh and some decent coffee, though Christchurch does make some pretty decent coffee if my memory serves me right!

Probably get lynched next time I hit town for saying that now, especially in Lyttleton:D

Epic Southern Trip sounds good take heaps of pics enjoy, sounds like everyone's going South this year eh!

Ah it takes time to acquire the bean bud, and lots of tasting:D

Yeah Lyttlelton is a quirky one ;)

On the trip south make sure you stop in @ the Old Post in Clyde, dam good breaky there, best sandwich in Cromwell and coffee's not bad either at the Grain& Seed Cafe in the old part of town where the old gold miners restoration town has been resurrected its a must stop and there's some good mtn biking in them there hills! [head to Bannockburn! good pub there too! Ok no more secrets :D

The Marin is looking great will be awesome on the trip perfect for around there!

Paid slightly more attention this time to work out which way we should go next time... It actually meets up with the run we do a few times which is cool, but when you tie it all in together its all confusing... Especially since we seem to take a slightly different route every time.

Well, we are not sure yet. There is a wise man here in Christchurch called Zane- and I'm yet to ask for his ideas ;) (are you here Zane?)

Selling one of the Turners? Well its the best time to do it with the season kicking in and all! Funny enough the guy visiting (Richard), is a Turner nut too and will be on his brand new Sultan (08) when he arrives. So you are all fixed up now and back in the saddle?

Thanks for the secret locations (tm) :D

As for today- I headed up the Hills on teh Wolf for a quick climb and decent :D Flying solo again as everyone is caught up in work Xmas parties and alike- infact i bailed on my Wife who wanted me to go along to her book club BBQ :D Thankfully she understands my addiction :D

Since I've had the Wolf its getting harder and harder to stop and take photos as i'm hammering it to fast and just don't want to stop.. lol! I did manage to get this little bit of trail which was right near the end of the down traversing into the city.

I'm still struggling a bit with the Hope hubs vs my Kings- they just don't have the engagement through the technical rocky stuff. I'm sure i'll get used to them though.

Yeah one has to go! With my plans for rehab and future ride idea's one needs a good home both still like new since looked after so well!

Just have to break it down which I hate doing as its a hassle selling separately, but oh well I'm not doing allot anyways LOL.

Ahh not yet, had a CT scan today so in new year will see specialist again and hear the results!

Then I can get to next level of rehab maybe hopefully, I'm looking fwd to that, dam headaches that's the main problems! getting better each week, broken neck and fractures one thing add the brain injuries and that takes as much if not more time!

No fast way around it! Still it's all good, worst people off than me..

Secret HS all good

Looks like a good ride, great to hear ya going so well on the Marin, I'm not surprised, its nice to ride an HT steel and all and nice to mix it up but the SI is really a dually heaven, I still want a SS HT again myself but never to replace a FS! BTW looks stunning day again, and the bike Marin looks a great ride!

Def sounds like the Mrs is understanding, and well as tempting as BC & BQ is good to see ya let each other have space to let the hair down :D

I'd rather go ride up there too though, take the dog for a good run! this time next year!

You'll need to get one of those helmet mounted cams so no need to stop, so you can capture all that epic single track down there!

This weeks riding has been really sweet with a Port Hills ride with Spencer mid week and today we headed to the Wharfedale again. Spence invited two of his mates along which was great. I must admit though that I was a little nervous because as as much as I love the Wolf- I was not sure how all of the extra ‘beef’ would translate to the greasy and technical climbs found on the Wharfedale track.

Let me cut to the chase…THE WOLF ROCKED MY LITTLE WORLD TODAY…wow!

More about the ride and photos here (http://www.mountainbikingnewzealand.co.nz/2008/12/14/wharfedale-track-meets-the-wolf/)

I did 3 laps around Centennial Park today. Wanted to do more but the sun was setting and I was scared my car would be locked in.

I wish they weren't so vague. It's like, sunset. What does that mean? Why can't they say 7:45pm or something. Why sunset? I can tell when the sun has risen and when it has set but in between it's ALL THE SAME THING. THE friggen sun is moving through the sky.

On any given weekend I usually ride the various fire trails @ Ku-Ring-Gai National Park which for me starts from the end of Bobbin Head Rd, North Turramurra. Has a good mix of different terrains, so if any of you guys are up that way give us a holler!

Really can't wait to ride Manly Dam :)

Today just happened to stumble across yet another Trail, it's actually called "Murua Track" at the end of Murua Rd, a bit more closer to home than the ones I normally go to which are at Ku-Ring-Gai National Park. Don't get me wrong they are awesome but to make the most of them, they need to be attacked during the day. This one however is ideal for an after work smash...How good is it? Almost stacked it...almost!...I think that little "episode" was a bit of a wake up call! Time to get padded up :D

p.s just as I'm writing this...there seems to another trail even closer :p

Thursday morning normally means ditching the mtb for the DJ bike and hitting some jumps or the local bmx track.

This morning met up with a mate (who owns the white 2009 Scott Voltage) and my two sons.

Actually I find that DJing helps alot with trail riding, especially when you are launching or jumping on the trail.

The green 2007 voltage is mine, which I hope to convert to SS in the new year. For the last month I have had it purposely locked in the same gear to prove to myself that is the direction I wanted to go.

Here is some pics::

it has been raining most days this week and more to come...so with a sunny day today i had a sneaky spin on the SS at bottlelake forest after work. i love how a commute to the forest and a lap and then back feels like i've been out for much longer! the ipod shuffled some wicked tracks too as i was weaving through the dry sandy singletrack.... i love it when that happens..... everything just aligns as you are cranking and flowing with no gears to think about :D

i really recommend giving a SS a go chaps!

Sun: Suga rides Centennial park by herself and at 8.30AM I did Manly Dam with the MC Cyclery guys, awesome as we took the big outside loop which I've never done before. Some nice juicy bits over there and a 5ft drop which I didn't have the testicles to do (next time!). 12PM I met up with Grant (nice to meet you mate!), Eddie and Thanh and friends at Loftus.

Did my very first MTB ride today. Started off doing the Cascade Track in St Ives until my handlebars came loose half way and had to head back to car the get allen key (yes, stupid thing to forget). So after that false start I headed back down the Cascade Track again, determined to get through it, although some way along the track I managed to veer off and get lost. Ended up coming out at Ralston Avenue in Belrose.

No idea where I went but hot diggity it was fun! Managed to get a bit of air coming down a couple of the hills and went through this creek that suddenly became far deeper than I expected. At the end of the day I was one happy, wet and muddy chappy.

I think I was gone for about 4 hours. I must say many thanks to the gf who was waiting in the car the whole time and came around in the end to pick me up. Also a further thanks to the two guys who stopped to help me with my front brake, much appreciated.

I too did my first MTB ride today.
Followed the Perimeter and Long trail/tracks at Kuringai National Park. I think we parked at St Ives Showground so roundtrip is roughly 35km.

The ride was at 7am for about 3 hours and right now, my legs are soooooooo sore I have minor problem keeping my balance.

Was rocky and hilly, almost went over my handle bars lol but I just had to keep to my own pace.

I took my wife out to Woodlands Regional Park for a ride. She's a beginner so all the nice open fire trails etc suited her to a tee. Of course, i had my usual stupid crash, which usually involves me getting distracted and falling off. This time I thought i saw a tree with thorns dropped on the ground, so stopped before i went through...forgot i was clipped in though. My right knee now has 3 fantastic gouges out of it...and no, the tree didn't have thorns either. :o

I think i'll tell everyone i went off a 6 foot drop sideways and that's the only injury i got...or something along those lines anyway :D

Sexy drunk riding to and from my Mum's place a few blocks away for dinner.

I rode Christina's TCR roadie and the stem's even a bit long for me, strange as it's an XXS womens specific frame with a 90mm stem. Go figure! Got that one wrong Giant! I'll be replacing it for her soon.

Just had the worst road ride ever. I thought the heat was dying down but as soon as i got out of my street it picked up again and had some wind with it this time. A head wind for 15km and by 5km my water was hot! The heat coming off the road was pretty intense, i got every light on the loop, couldn't get into the pedals first go at any of the lights and even cut the loop short by half. The cars seemed to get a bit closer today too and with 10km to go my legs just had nothing in them. 4th gear started skipping a bit. 3km to go and the winds picks up big time, this time blowing across and into me so i'm riding along with the bike at an angle just to stay upright and looking like a hermit crab. Made it home and jumped straight into a cold shower.

Anyway, I should have left my bike in the car for a few reasons, it was raining, i was by myself, the place is hell run-down, and there are some big things in there. I faffed around doing a few of the jumps and lines and stuff but didn't want to do too much because I was by myself.
I also rode my bmx for an hour at waterloo but it was too hot and i'm gumby so I went home.

Tonight was an AWESOME ride! Weather was perfect. Found some ultra cool bush trails that start only about 1km from home! (ive only been living here 6 months, and exploring for the last couple of weeks lol). Followed some big spur reef trail road that was about 2kms up, 3kms down, 2kms up, 1km down ... VERY cool! Ran out of daylight and headed home, so am hanging to get out there to keep exploring!

I think bearings are screwed in the pedals ... they kept making noises, and i could feel a slight clunk under my feet at random intervals. Surely it's not the bottom bracket on a brand new bike? Will swap pedals after work tmmw and go for a burn.
