OK I know Cell bikes come under a lot of fire for cheap and nasty bikes, but in my opinion filling the void between Kmart and Giant bikes is a good thing.

They've just released this info on their blog:
http://www.cellbikes.com.au/blog_page.php?id=54

Depending on the price, it could be a great way for people to get into fixed gear riding and could make a good commuter bike to lock up to poles, kick when you're mad, and stuff!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the c1ngle has been available for a while now (http://www.cellbikes.com.au/p_2215_CELL__Cing1e_FIXED_GEAR_TRACK_BIKE__The_Bes t_Fixed_Gear_Bargain_in_AU_is_Almost_Gone). (and it's been tempting me for about that period of time)

Whoops! :o It was new to me!

Justin Fox

PS: not a bad price (I still prefer my SE for $50 more though! :p).

50 bucks extra would also get you a fuji track (http://pedalsplus.com.au/store/product_info.php?cPath=1_45&products_id=173). Mind you, it's byo brakes.

Justin Fox

Damn that Fuji track would definitely be the go!

they come with removable decals, so it would look stealthy without them... funny that's one of their selling points (so it doesn't show up as a Cell when you ride it)

Jing
17-02-09, 12:24 PM
it was cheaper previously i believe $530ish

keromx
17-02-09, 12:27 PM
yes that was the launch price, probably a good pickup then...

Been out about a month! started off at $499... up to $699 now or something...

Go look at the spam thread (I think) i mentioned getting one back when it was preorder.

Went in with $500 cash to purchase the Cingle, and to have a chat with the guys in there.
Spent 20 minutes standing around looking before anyone even looked at me, another 15 or so before the dude came to me and asked what i was after. I said I wanted the Cingle but wasnt sure the size i needed.
He basically said he didnt know anything about it, they hadnt seen it, he wouldnt make a guess.
after 5 minutes of asking him general questions and his basically just answering that he hadnt seen it, i knew as much as him and that i look like a 56cm-59cm I left.

No way i will buy from them,

IMO its false advertising for them to market that as a track bike, its a road bike with horizontal dropouts,

Justin Fox
17-02-09, 04:41 PM
They really should have marketed it as a "fixie".

addmin
17-02-09, 04:46 PM
yep, i agree. and they could have at least put at 1 1/8 headtube or an adapter on it so new style stems can be easily run

rcoh
17-02-09, 07:34 PM
Take off the brake and it is a track bike. Horizontal 'drop outs' are not drop outs as your wheel doesn't 'drop out' They are called track ends. The fuji 'track' has pretty relaxed geo compared to a traditional track bike but that is still a track bike. Track bike geo has also changed significantly since the eighties, which was different fron times past and different tyupes of track bikes have different geos altogether.

Steel tubed bikes look better with 1" headset, 1 1/8" looks too fat imo. and it isn't like there isn't an abundance of 1" quill stems floating around. 1"--> 1 1/8" converters look sooo crap (take my white fixed for example).

Anyway. I quite like that Cell bike.

Justin Fox
17-02-09, 07:37 PM
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't a track bike have to have a taller BB for velodrome work?

So you're pissed because they wouldn't sell you a bike that they couldn't be sure fitted you. Arseholes.

No i didnt buy with them because of their shithouse support and customer service - at no point did i say it was because they couldnt fit the bike for me. I didnt expect them to have the bikes in yet as they were preorder sales only, but surely he could have sat me on a similar geometry and at least given me an idea. I told him i would buy online if he could provide me with sizing, when he said i dont know you know as much as me, they lost the sale...

Well let's just say Andy had a bad experience with Cell, again, could have been a bad day for the staffer there, never know but it's all good in any case as Andy went for the Surly :p

g'day, I'm Mark from CELL and yeah, if you love or hate anything about the Cing1e that would be my fault.

After speaking to a lot of people, they spoke honestly and said, "I'd buy/ride it if it didn't say 'CELL'". So, I took that into consideration and currently the CELL Cing1e is our fastest selling bike of all time.

In fact, we only have 2 53's left and 12 56's left!

g'day mate, sorry to hear that you got such rough treatment. i handled the 'pre-sales' mostly on another board, but i made sure that any who had a question got an answer.

regarding in-store sales, just come in and ask for me as long as it's not on friday or sunday (my days off). some of the guys here might not know as much about fixies as i do (i designed it, spec'd it & did the artwork, for better or worse).

would you remember the name of the person who gave you crap service or remember what they look like?

what kind of cranks are spec'd on the SE? we're running TruVativ Elita's which have outboard bearings and are REALLY stiff and smooth!

thats the thing I didnt ask on a forum; i went to the actual store and was asking about it. Service was appalling that single (pardon the pun) experience ruined Cell for me. I had explained that I would buy i just wasn't sure what size i needed. I understood it was a presale at that time but some form of advice so to the size needed was all I needed. Had he not said "you know as much as me" initially and just said this is a 53cm road bike that is similar try it i would have bought it.

It was an older shortish gentlemen with grey short hair?; had a good demeanor but have no recollection of exact name it was the week before the pre-sale which was a while ago.

Ive ridden a few cingles and they just dont seem rigid enough for my liking!

and deep v rip offs might be interesting; wonder what they weight is going to be!

Such a hater hey. Just relax. Many companies were making bikes that look like that far before SE jumped on the bandwagon.

addmin
03-08-09, 10:46 PM
the cingle was just a steel road frame with the tips changed... this one looks so much better, and looks-wise it is similar to some of the better selling frames...

geometry wise, its not a 'track' bike but, for most of the market it is exactly what they are after

hater. No.... and tell me to relax? where was i un-relaxed.

It looks exactly like the old lager, that's all I was saying... I have a lager sitting in my lounge room and its so close! all white with bullhorns is what im saying, if Masi or Surly did the same thing I would have said the exact same thing.

This will get more people interested in fixed gears which is awesome! and hopefully it leads those that love them to a better bike over time as they can afford it. Mate has one, he bought it because it was cheap and wasnt sure whether a fixie was for him. He loves it now so is looking for a new frame.

It looks like Cell took a lot of constructive criticism and suggestions from customers and acted on it which is great.

Tomas
04-08-09, 12:46 PM
The implication of unoriginality is negatively framed. Like, if you had left it as 'Looks like the 09 lager' or whatever, that would have been fine. But by adding the little 2c of "eg. unoriginal", you're pretty much accusing Cell of being plagarists. It's a pretty negative way of framing it, thats all. Further backed up by 'rip-off's' - again, very negative framing of a situation. Hence, hater.

Sorry if thats not what you implied, but it's how it sounded.
