I have gotten my bike home from the Dam this morning and wheeling it round the car to wash it i found the headset has a weird clicking/grinding sound coming from it when i turn the handle bars.

Could i have damaged a bearing or something when riding it today? Still in no condition to go hucking or anything but the dam can be pretty rough at times.

I know its hard to tell without hearing the noise but any suggestions? May just have to give Grant a ring and get him to have a listen to it next weekend

It may just have sand and gunk in it. This will be the likely problem as the dam is rather sandy at the moment. Try taking it apart and repacking the bearings. Check the bearings, they still should be a shiny silver colour, if they have a golden colour to them then they need replacing. Also check the bearing cups for any rough patches as this decreases life for the bearings.

That being the possible case i will ask Grant what the best thing to do is as i dont want to void the warranty on the bike (its only a month old)

thanks for the info :)

Considering it is only a month old, I highly doubt it would be due to worn bearings. Worst case scenario it would be a crushed bearing. But considering it was right after the sand i would say it is just sand than managed to crawl its way in from beign flicked in from the front tyre.

Dissasemble the front headtube and clean out the headset cups and bearings, then pack it back in re-grease and its done.
