Not to put a downer on this thread but is any body else worried about the rapid rate the fixie trend has grown?Dont gety me wrong i get the whole deal ,the bikes are so nice and clean and simple and i can appreciate a nice fixie when i see one and i deffinitly appreciate that they are difficult to ride(that is until you get the hang of it of course).The whole trendy hipster side of it is what gets me,these fashion types who until it was the cool thing to do hadnt touched a bike since they were twelve,jumping on the band wagon.With no bike control and no idea (but at least the bike and the hair do look good),these trendy types hit the street.I can tell you i get a kick out of watching these guys getting all sketchy down king st almost crashing every where.Its getting a bit ridiculous,how long till one of these dudes gets seriously hurt or killed because they jimped on a fixed gear road bike(the freewheel was invented in the 20s for a reason by the way)and they cant handle it and they get killed beacuse they want to look cool.Riding on the road is danderous enough any way.
By no means is this rant aimed at anybody on this forum as i can see you are all proper bike enthusiasts,im just wondering if this bothers anyone else on here?

Agree with you Tom, so many people getting on the fixie bandwagon because high profile scensters have them; Kanye; Pharell; Hiroke etc etc... As much as I love their work i didn't get a fixie because I wanted to be like them; nor to use it as a fashion accessory.

I initially thought they were stupid that was until I rode one and fell in love with it, the whole always in control having to pay attention side of things, that and the fact i dont have to wear lycra to ride it :P I don't wear my normal supreme styled clothing when i ride it; i wear mountain biking gear and use it to commute not to look good.

As i have just jumped on the scene i can't really post against hipsters jumping on 'cause from the outside i look like one; i'm contributing to the scene getting ruined for the OG messengers and fixers....

the same crew that got back into BMX have now stepped up to fixie so that is kinda cool to see them evolving but again more so for the hipster side of things; 2 years ago none of them rode bikes; well shit this time last year i didnt own a bike; i now have 4 1/2.... (i really have to come visit HOW to grab the last of the infrared stuff i need)

ah yes, my fixie has brakes. brakeless may look cool but seems utterly stupid to me.

Yeah Andy i can totally appreciate your side of the story as you do seem genuinly stoked on bikes and riding them,as do ( i hope) evey one else on this forum does.and yeah your using ot for commutin which is rad its when they ride them to be seen in the cool spots in thier cool clothes and stuff but you dont look so cool when you nearly eat shit trying to roll down the road ha.Please dont any one get me started on the fixie trick riding thing im sure its hard and stuff but they look retarded.
Ive ridden fixies and its fun(although its not for me-too used to having the freedom of the 20 inch wheel)but where is this trend thing going,hopefully it will die off and wont be cool any more then the real bike enthusiasts can get on with it with out the bandwagon guys in the way

i saw a brushed steel frame with a king headset, crome drops, cant remember the cranks, phil wood hubs laced to black rims (i think). fixed.

The longer I stare at these tyres, the better they look.
The whole bike looks indeed very fine, but I somehow don't like the look of v-brakes at all.
On the other hand Maguras would be to bulky for such a simple bike...
Someone should design beautiful v-brakes I guess ;)

what frame is that second to last bike, that is super hot looking...

I just want different to what I have now i think... I love the surly but its the same all the time, i want change :P Its as if I need to respray it every month to keep it fresh!

Looks like a "typical" modern Aluminium 'teardrop' style track bike frame Andy. (Try searching De Ver track bikes, or Hillbrick track bikes).

In regards to making your bike different every week. I suppose that's part of fixie culture. If you had a beater fixie you could easily toy with it all the time. It could be where I'm going with the Fuji I suppose.

Gotta love a Surly. Unfortunately mine languishes in a box in a garage in Adelaide.

Mine is as shown, but with clips and a WTB saddle, I love the bars that come on these, I think I weighed mine at 620gm. I plan on swapping aout the cranks for middleburns. Goddamed 94BD. My favourite part about it? No Shimano. Wouldn't mind cleaning up the V-brakebosses with the angle grinder and sending it in for a violet powder coat... and white industries hubs... and a silver king headset and...

Post more Mountain bikes! Nothing original about ruining a nice track frame with horrible wheels.
