View Full Version : Brake lever loose?
Hey,
Any way to adjust my brake lever? It's quite loose and sits very far forward now.
I can see the grub screw that adjusts the piston (and hence bite point), tried moving it to check it didn't adjust the handle and well yeah it doesn't.

It's such a dumb thing but I really can't figure it out :o
when you screw the grub screw in, the lever should move out, and when you unscrew it, the lever should move closer to the bars.
try loosening it all the way off,
Well at the moment the MTB has around 2 inches of travel towards the bar before it starts to 'bite'.
I will try again in the garage in a second... if it's just cause I didn't screw it out/in enough, I'll be annoyed at sounding rather noob :):)
Cheers mate!
if it doesnt work you may need to bleed it, or check that you still have brake pads.
So yeah, handles moves in/out with the grub screw adjustment.
However, the handle still has 2 inches of complete free play in it before it has any feeling. You can move it around very easily, no resistance at all. Brakes are Tektro, going to look around now and see if I can see how they are designed so I can eliminate the free play.
I don't think it's a bleeding issue, it's like whatever puts the handle at it's "maximum" position has moved.. because when I first pull on the handle, it should still be firm, but I can see the piston that moves off the handle isn't even touching the brake cylinder (as such) until the 2inches of freeplay has been used.
when the brake finally does work, how effective is it?
