The Ransom is a great bike, it's very strong and like you say it is versatile. I have ridden it at Thredbo and it withstood a beating. However it's not the sort of bike you would use for that kind of terrain all the time. I would position it as a big trail bike or light free ride bike. I have had some issues with the rear shock making a knocking noise on rebound. After doing further research i had found others experienced the same. New Ransoms run a new rear shock so that problem may be fixed.

They certainly ride really well and for their weight they can climb Ok too. If you are heavier rider the Ransom's strength will suit you. I upgraded the forks to Fox Vanillas and have to say it feels so much plusher and direct. Looks loads better too.

I would recommend the bike but question dealers about the rear shock rebound and see what they say.

Hi I would like to ask you about the Scott ransom if you don't mind? I have a scott MC20 Genius and it's a great bike but I want something more down hill'ish with out going full on down hill bike. I understand the ransom is just that a down hill bike that you can ride up hill on. What do you think?? I'm keen to hear from you as I will be looking at one this week. Cheers bob.
