Default Manly Dam Updates - 9 Nov 2010

    Posted Ssaturday the 6th November

The mountain bike trail at Manly Dam is unofficially CLOSED due to the recent rain and extremely wet track conditions. As it is unofficial, I am asking you to stay off the track this weekend and wait to hear about its status on Monday. Please spread the word as internet updates cannot be made until normal business hours resume.

The track will be reviewed on Monday and either officially closed or open.

Cool, lets hope for some blistering hot days to bake it dry a little.

Weather station was saying that they reckon this year will be a wet cold summer which is going to suck big time

As Stan said though, its going to take a good week or two of 25 degree plus days to get it ridable again

    Dear Riders,

After further investigation it has been decided that the mountain bike trail at Manly Dam is now OFFICIALLY CLOSED due to the recent rain and extremely wet track conditions.

It will remain closed until further notice. Please try to stay off the track until it is officially re-opened and all signs have been removed.
There will be a note posted on the website regarding closure.

We believe there may be mountain biking opportunities around Red Hill and Oxford Falls area, but unfortunately at this point in time we have not got the capacity to be more specific.

Thanks for your co-operation in this matter.

    Kind Regards,

    Manly Dam Rangers

    and another

    Dear All,

Sorry to send another e-mail but it is important and urgent:

Please DISREGARD previous comments about Red Hill and Oxford Falls- I have been made aware that both these places are either forbidden or worse off drainage-wise than Manly Dam. PLEASE DO NOT RIDE THERE!

Suggestions from fellow bikers have been West Head and Terrey Hills fire trails. Please do your best to ensure riding is allowed in those areas before you commence. Please also be aware the rain has been wide spread and may have impacted these areas heavily as well.
West Head road, although a road, is often a very pleasant ride.

    Regards,

    MD Ranger

Yeah i found that second email amusing LOL. I was definitely surprised he/she mentioned the other non-legal riding options in the first email. Woops!

Unfortunately its going to be a long wet summer... oh well perhaps this will mean my street riding will improve, at the expense of my knees!

The cascades in Belrose. Would they be an option when Manly Dam is closed?

The Dam is destroyed. I went to drop some stuff off to BT180 tonight and took Andrea to show her the very end parts. Its like a river. There is loads of water running through the place and the footpath leading down to the little concrete bridge is a mini river

Its going to take an easy 2 weeks for the Dam to be ridable again and thats with 30 degree windy days
