    Default Low Rolling resistance tyres?

    Been talking with Z10 all night today regarding to

    rolling resistance will effect ur crank power and uphill performance...

    I only know some tyres roll quiter then the others...

    on the trail should i go over size or standard size?

    what is the lowest and highest rolling resistance tyres?

    Try a search in the tire section on mtbr.com , there was an absolutlely massive thread with tests by a german bike mag with regards to weights, rolling resistance punctures etc etc. long but a good read.

    It's not rocket science really. It's all about trade off and to add to that, there is no one BEST tyre out there. Just like saddles, it's all personal preference too.

    I used to think about it so much as well. But when you go for a ride with someone like Rhys, who's running the fattest, heaviest and slowest tyres out of everyone in the group, and he's leading the pack on his 20kg downhill bike on an XC trail, then it makes you harden the fuck up about what you're riding, or running!

    You could run a slick tyre at Loftus and you'd have no rolling resistance (apart from the weight of the tyre) and you'd be a lot faster rolling than the guy next to you with knobbies. But you'd have a lot less grip! (amongst other issues!).

    You just have to figure out what kind of riding you love doing the most David.

    Whether you live for the flats, gradual uphills and climbs, the downhills, or the technical rock gardens. That'll help you decide on which tyre's the best for you.

    And, just buy a few different tyres and get experimenting. They're not THAT expensive and you can't go off reviews you read on the internet, you have to try these things for yourself.

    You will find that XC racers will use low rolling resistance tyres like.. Kenda SB8, Maxxis Larsen TT or Racing Ralphs. But these tyres arnt as much fun when you go out trail riding and wanna have some fun flying down the loose downhills etc.

    Then at the other end of the scale you have the Maxxis Minions and other DH tyres.. which have alot more grip but are heavy and more rolling resistance.

    and the same tyre run tubeless will have less rolling resistance than when it is run with a tube...

    to extend this discussion a little more. How much difference does front tires play in regards to rolling resistence? Ie if i have a 2.5 nevegal up front and i have a larsen rear how will it roll?

    I know this is sort of like a how long is a piece of string question but if anyone could reply that has actually tried say 2x larsen and then 1x larsen rear something knobblier up front it would be greatly appreciated.

    Micro nobbies roll fast.

    Try SMB8's or larsen tt's.... I think the racing ralph is whippet quick too.

    I've had 2 x 2.35 Larsen TT on Reign, 2.35 Nevegal front and 2.35Larsen TT rear and found the Larsen to be too annoyingly slippery on tech/loose climbs so I've let them go.

    Now I'm running 2.1 Nevegals and would like to try a crossmark 2.1 rear OR a Larsen 2.1 rear just to see if I roll faster, or not. I'll buy both tyres ASAP and give them both a good go and report back ASAP.

    Lets not forget about our friends at Michelin, the XCR Dry2 is just as rocket fast and easy rolling as anything else. Continental Race King’s deserve some props too, they’re supposed to be amazing but I never got to find out because the blasted things are too big for my Trance…

    This is the XCR Dry2, the biggest 2.0in tire I’ve ever seen!

    michelin seems to be forgotten in sydney.. i always see maxxis, kenda and schwable
