Thread: Rock Shox Reverb

    Default Rock Shox Reverb

Okay, so I got my new Reverb post a couple of weeks back and just got around to fitting it up today, so I took a few piccies of the installation for a review. Here goes..

    What's in the box?

The seat post of course, a bleed kit, 3 neat little plastic couplers to attach the remote cable to existing brake lines, a cable guide for the seat tube, a short torx bolt for the Matchmaker mount, and 2 tiny rubber grommets (although I don't know what these are for).

    Obligatory weight check (380mm post):

Fitting the post is staight forward as expected, with markings on the post to get your seat level.

Fitting the Match Maker (MMX) mount was a bit fiddly. I had to remove the shifter from it's bracket, then remove the brake and grip to slide the old bracket off. The hinged Reverb bracket takes it's place, and the shifter bolts to the reverb bracket with the short short screw supplied in the kit. This whole excercise was pretty fiddly because all of the bolts are quite close together, and the shifter covers one of the up.

Here is the finished result, all pretty neat:

There is oval shaped cable guide to fit onto the seat tube, and 3 plastic couplers to attach to your brake lines, these are a nice touch and make the cable 'behave' itself..

    Seat post

I've only ridden it up and down the street to test - and it rocks! I've always compromised on seat height, and probably ridden with my seat to low so I'm not way high for the rough stuff, I reckon this will sort that out.

    cheers,
    David.

Have you got a dropper post on any of your rigs?

not atm but i had a ks i7 dropper post which has had a far less amount of people complaining but i am guessing that might be because a far less amount of people purchased it too.

i wanted a reverb but the reviews were enough to put me off.

The xfusion post seems the best from the reviews. They make the command post for specialized.

Gravity droppers are meant to be pretty good too. I think theyre a little heavy though.

Actually I believe the new X-Fusion "Hilo" (2012 model) has lost some weight (45g loss, now 545g), and gained travel (125mm now).

I've been waiting in vein for dropper posts to become reliable before getting one but am getting rather impatient. The RS Reverb was on my want list for ages but, like others, the negative experiences of so many riders has put me off.

One other major issue I have with dropper posts is the extra length of cable that flaps around when lowered. I would run one lowered for possibly extended periods so it would really annoy me! There is the new Reverb Stealth that looks great (only OEM at this stage) and I know KS have a prototype at the mo that has the cable entering the base of the seatpost/seal area... i'm hoping others soon follow suit as it makes so much more sense!

PS Brim: How has your Reverb been treating you? Chance of a followup review??

KS are back with a Distributor in Australia

$320 for the Supernatural Remote ...
    $275 for the lever

same pricing for the 27.2mm model

$220 & 270 for the Dropzone (Lever & Remote Respectively)

about $100 cheaper through the range compared to the old distro's ... Similarly about $100 cheaper then the Joplin RRP ... not sure how much the reverb RRPs for, but cheaper then @ TBSM.

We're also about GST off from Jensons

Sorry for spaming your thread brim ... but cheaper, more reliable, and no need for all that mucking around out of the box. Nuff said really.

Yeah no worries.. I should've done earlier!

The post has been awesome, personally I haven't had the need to bleed it at all, I literally put it onto the bike and that was it. I actually expected that I'd need to bleed it because of things I'd read, but never did and it has been smooth as.

It did have a mishap in the repair stand at the LBS, accidentally clamped which pulled the hydro cable out from under the seat and the fluid came out. All fixed under warranty, apparently RS have improved the coupling on later models. Considering this it would have been bled when it was put back together, so there you go bled once!

The cable length was an issue for me at first, the excess cable when the seat was down would bump my leg and annoy me. I've since moved cable guide onto the post itself (not my frame as the pic above), also did some re-routing of other cables and now the Reverb cable falls nicely behind the post and is surrounded by the suspension linkage so it stays out of the way.

    Two thumbs up from me

    cheers,
    David.
