Thread: New Harley Davidson project

  1. #1

    Default New Harley Davidson project

I recently picked up this 1922 JD Harley V twin 1000cc engine for a board track racer project.

This is what I'm aiming for. This may take some time!

Second part of the puzzle is finished.

Forks are currently being made in the states.
Now going with a later model build 1918 and not 1915.

Forks, exhaust stubs and front hub. Picking up the beaded edge rims in NZ next week, these are pre clincher rims.

Very cool. How much of this is original, and how much is custom/repro? I've got mates building '30s rods, they've got to search hard enough for parts let alone a bike from the teens! You looking at rego?

Found an awesome youtube clip of a guy riding this era board tracker on the dirt track, balls of steel I tell ya! Cant access it at work, will try and remember to share it from home.

Nope not for rego. The engine is all that's original. There's a shite load of early teens Harley repro stuff out there, for instance the bottom end rebuild kit for the v twin was something like $270US and included all crank pins and bearings etc! My brother and I are planning to head to the States in 2013 to race, he's building a early teen Dayton V twin. I use these guys for parts http://www.competitiondist.com/index.php
The original racers were hard men alright, plenty of them died racing on the wooden board tracks.
