Thread: WTB - steel forks

    Default WTB - steel forks

Bit of a stab in the dark, but the forks on my old roadie just snapped above the crown and I'm having a bit of trouble finding a worthy replacement.

Current (broken) forks are 531 Professional steel, with a 1" threadless tube and a 180mm steerer for 700c rims. They have a bit of a forward rake on them, I think it's about 35mm. Frame is 56cm square.

It's a nice old Ron Bates (Sydney built in the 80's) with a 531 Professional frame, so I'd be after a similar light-ish grade of steel. Chrome and carbon are out of the question. Colour isn't really an issue as I'm about to respray the frame. Please help! It's my primary means of transport as well! The biggest problem I've encountered so far is finding the right Reynolds or Columbus fork with a threadless tube.

PM me if you can help out or have any good tips!

Try Fixed.org.au OR go into Europa cycles (they'll make you a pair)

Still chasing some forks here. Getting a bit desperate now. Seems to be a shortage of decent vintage steel forks going around at the moment!

I just noticed a mistake in my original post – I'm actually after 1" THREADED (not threadless).

Steerer length approx. 180mm is what I'm chasing, any half decent Tange, Reynolds, Columbus would be ideal.

so i'm looking at your avatar, and the first line of your opening post, and wondering "did this kid intentionally make a funny?"
i saw some 531 forks on ebay recently for $240.
may be cheaper to buy a complete frameset..

Email Gear in Brisbane and get them to get Colossi to make you a pair.
It's a design thing. The cat is lost in the negative space
