    Default Thule Proride 591

So i picked up my new car this morning, The dealership to sweetened the deal by fitting crossbars for free. So now i'm in the search for bike racks. I have read other threads that almost everyone on there loves the Proride 591 and Thule botany does them for $200 with free shipping(no one in QLD can come even close to that price).

In canada i had 2 594XT Sidearms and they were great! I like how they don't actully touch the frame of the bike. They were very stable, even with a 18-19kg DH bike but here they are $100 more expensive than the Prorides. Also they are much heavier than the Prorides and not as streamline/neat looking.

So what i want to know is how much does the jaw on the Proride scratch the paint on the downtube, if at all?

I've never had a problem with scratches on the frame either, and we've driven interstate and driven on dirt roads, not just short distances with the bikes on the rack. The jaw of the clamp is in a v-shape so it naturally self centres, and they've got a soft rubber compound. I just give the downtube a quick wipe and dont even bother with a rag for protection. I did have one time where the bike was filthy and a quick wipe with my hand didnt cut it, but luckily I found a tap and gave it a reasonable clean. If you're expecting to be mountain biking, getting pretty filthy and not having access to a tap, throw a 2 litre bottle of water in the car so you can give the bike a quick rinse post ride.

I keep the rack on the car permanently, the arm folds down neatly when not in use and doesnt create any wind noise, I'd definitely reccomend one
