so If it is a concept store. Perhaps they have the rent or part of the rent covered by Bianchi & all the other products they have in the store & re divert all the traffic they gain from a westfield.

So its perhaps jus an advertisement & showcase for the product they keep in thier proper shop down the road.

So its just a advertising campain for 6 mths.

I haven't seen what they have in Bondi Bikes Concept, but I think for it to work they'll need a super friendly sales team and have bikes to suit the target market of shopping centers they are occupying.

I don't see these type of stores working at say Parra Westfield, but will certainly work at trendy places like Bondi.

Bondi Junction is full of backpackers who ride Reid bikes. Not sure they'll get too many purchases upwards of $1k.
MC Cyclery have got it right. They have a shop in Maroubra, and a shop in town. The shop in town gets people waltz in on their lunch break and buy a $10k bike. Not likely to have that happen in Bondi Junction - its different to Bondi.

What I was suggesting is that they don't need to sell bikes for that amount. Its about making people brand aware. Its purley advertising. heaps of people walk past. Thats what you want. those serious asking about stuff will wonder in & get diverted to thier proper shop. Same with repairs they get diverted to thier workshop down the road.

rent could partly be covered by the brands they sell in the shop if its to make people aware of a particular brand. wages.....well who knows.
In Bondi Junction Westfield has plenty of people who can drop lots of cash. They are also on the 2nd floor rather where I'am on the ground floor. I deal with peole who don't want to part with cash. Thats why I'm on the ground floor.
I'm on the so called Meat Market Floor. Its Game on down here.

I still think its a very gutsy move. I don't recall any bike shop in any Westfield ever.
I assumed it would be like potential of hydrogen or other "hip" stores. But if it's a proper bike shop its far more interesting.

I think theyre driving their business on impulse sales. Which means they need very friendly/patient staff to wade through the endless tire kickers they get, and they'll get drilled on prices.

Working in a bike shop, I always try and get customers to go for a test ride, so they can compare different bikes or get a feel for the one they think they want. It makes my job massively easier, and probably 50% of the time closes the deal. I don't know how they'll do that with this shop.

Westfield Bondi Junction is about 6 mths ahead of the rest of the pack. What happens there at a Westfield B. J. happens in the rest of Australia ....6 mths later.
I doubt it, I don't think its sustainable as a business model for all bike shops. If it works we might see a few more shops in this sort of style. But logistically I think it's too difficult. Bike shops require street frontage, large storage areas and a workshop. All which you can't get in a shopping centre.

It's very good advertising, but I don't see enough branding in the picture of the shop linked above.

This. Again, it'll be driven on impulse buys. Cheaper bikes have larger margins than more expensive bikes, which is good.. but with the 200k+ rent they'll need to sell a hell of a lot of them.

And because of the impulse nature of the store, I don't know whether referring customers down the road to the other shop will necessarily work. If the customer is buying clothes and strolls into the bike shop I dare say they won't want to wait around for the bike they want. Considering the number of bikes on the market, it will be impossible to keep stock of each type of bike in each size. Even in my shop which looks to be 10x the size we cant manage this.

Yea I think you're right Nat. I have to say though it blew my mind. ( can you tell? ) I've already lost interest in it. It doesn't keep the stuff I love looking at. And the other shop is a few 100 m down the road. I seriously CBF walking down there. The main shop may as well be in a completely different Universe.
I hope it works out for them but sounds like its just a seriously brave move.

Interesting thread on a bike store trying to grow too quick and having to call in creditors, I figured a lot of the discussion would be interesting for folks on here
