Thread: The Cove Lives Again!

    Default The Cove Lives Again!

A funny thing happened today as I was stripping and cleaning the Cove Handjob ready for its imminent sale……I noticed a mark on the downtube that I remember “inflicting” on its maiden voyage down the Greenwood track….. and I started to think of all our adventures together. I’m not usually sentimental when it comes to “objects” but this frame was my introduction to the wonderful world of riding a long travel bike, steel frames and also helped me give up my obsession with bike weight and fragile weight weenie builds.

So with the fantastic NZ Autumn sun warming me ….I started to think more about the frame and how much I’d miss it…..and a new life for the Handjob came together there and then

Say hello to my new ride

The Cove had one more amazing trick up its sleeve too…. (a thankyou?) the rear stays are just perfect for the ratio of 32 x 16 and does not require a chain tensioner!! Brilliant! Spencer and I headed to Bottlelake Forest late this afternoon and the ride did not disappoint!

Shame you got sentimental before you managed to clean the rear wheel!

If you keep going like this you’ll become a bike collectomaniac…

Nice build. What sort of life do you expect to get from the chain before it stretches to much and you need to remove links or add a tensioner?

Its fairly snug - so could do with some stretch Not to worry though as the BMX chains are tough as nails The one on my GT peace seems to go forever!

I do have a chain device at hand if required though....but hope to not use it!

Yes the rear could have done with some soap! But by the time i got to this part i was over it

No chance of collecting I'm afraid as I do have a rule- that all of my bikes get ridden on a regular basis.... and if not they get sold. I'd love to collect though- but i like selling stuff i don't use and putting the cash towards other stuff.

    *strokes top tube*

Maybe next year i'll treat the Cove to a new paint job- i've always fancied "pixie blue" (like your Singular!) ......tasty!

Hey Paul, what size frame is your HJ ?
Ive realized this is probably the XC frame i've been looking for.. probably in the 19.5"
Would you rate it as a great geared XC bike ? I want a mountain goat that'll climb & charge downhills and not totally rattle my teeth out
Yeah its gonna hurt, but you'll love it....
