Been a while but had a bike night last night. Moved my tools and stand back upstairs for the night
![]() Things that needed to be done: - Tune Terry's Yukon, it has shifting problems (Thanh's old bike). - Tune Felix's Reign (out of tune) - Swap Thomson stems on Felix's Reign and my fixie. - Pull apart Timmy's beater and put all the parts onto the Yeti frame (which I had taken apart earlier in the day). ![]() Terry's Yukon was in a bad way. The rear derailleur wasn't shifting down properly, the chain was rusty and he'd been riding it with a lot of rear brake pad contact. We adjustaed the rear brake (wow the rear wheel actually spins now lol) and we lubed up the chain and had a really hard time tuning the gears. Jing and I thought the return spring on the rear derailleur was the problem (wasn't down shifting well at all) but Timmy suggested it was the cable itself. After hours of stuffing around with cables from my parts bin which were not long enough we finally found one that was and voila, shifting problems have been resolved (she's not shifting perfectly, but a whole lot better than before. Next step would be to replace outer cables as well). ![]() Didn't get a midnight ride in this time, too late, too tired. But Felix and Tony got a little go at the SE. 1st taste of fixed gear riding! ![]() NOSWOHL! Felix's 90mm stem on my SE. ![]() Timmy got chain ringed. This is why I always wear mechanic gloves when taking bikes apart, or putting them together! ![]() Yeti now belongs to Timmy. ![]() Timmy's bike, almost done. Issues: Could not get his chainguide on for some reason, something to do with the BB length not being long enough. He's borrowing my Funn stem as his steerer tube is not long enough (doh!) and he needs a 27.2mm seatpost and seatpost clamp. |

Riding a fixie is such a different experience. You can't stop pedaling!
The yukon shifts almost perfect now. So awesome! Now - to get rid of that hektic brake squeel. haha |

What we should have tried there was sand the pads down and clean the rotor. I know there was a bad batch of brakes that went out there on Giants. Richie and David both had the same brake squeeling noises.

Justin,
Sanding down and disc and pads it NOT going to fix the problems, As I spend a few hrs sanding down here and there trying to address the problems while i has those brake fitted on my XTC, it help a bit on the first 5 mins, then the problem starts again. I would say changing a new pads could solve the problems, Ill be buying new pads tomo and see if it gona works as Ill be putting the Yukon back to bone stock tomo! |
